To the Editor:
On Saturday, Feb. 11, in front of the Doylestown courthouse, some 40 to 50 citizens braved the snowstorm to rally, chant
and sing about the Bucks County commissioners’ choice of the next voting
system our citizens will use, come the May 16 primaries and farther along.
Mary Ann Gould, co-founder of the rally sponsors, Citizens for Voting Integrity, said she told people not to attend because
of the weather. However, more people than usual showed up. In response to the large banner they displayed, many passers-by
honked their horns, shouted their approval and some even parked their cars to join them.
Democratic candidates Patrick Murphy and Paul Lang joined the group. Chants such as, “No paper,
no vote, no way!” and songs such as, God Bless the People of America, which became the rallying cry at the end of the
event, were chanted and sung by this enthusiastic and emotionally charged group.
Four Japanese documentary filmmakers filmed the rally They are visiting this country primarily to study political candidates
for office who are Iraq War veterans, congressional candidate Patrick Murphy
in this instance. As a result of the rally they acquired another theme, that of a grassroots movement sweeping the nation
that demands that each and every vote be counted once, reliably, transparently and honestly.
